Two-Year Program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Beginning with the academic year 2010-11, CCP will inaugurate a two-year certificate program in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program can be undertaken on its own or as a transition to formal analytic training at CCP. Its aim is to provide a program of study in psychoanalytic theory and therapy for interested individuals who would like to deepen their knowledge of the field.

The program will have two tracks: a clinical track; and an academic track for those who wish to strengthen their backgrounds in psychoanalytic theory but who are not practicing clinicians. Students in the academic track will follow the same program as students in the clinical track, although their focus will be determined with their individual consultants.

The academic year will be divided into three 11-week periods. Most classes will be held on Monday evenings at the Chicago School for Professional Psychology, 325 N. Wells, Chicago, from 7 to 9PM.

Eligibility to register for the annual collaborative seminar in the analytic training program

Each year, students in the program may register for an additional seminar sponsored jointly by CCP and the Institute for Clinical Social Work. This seminar is part of the curriculum offered to CCP psychoanalytic candidates as well as to the PhD students of ICSW. Participation in this seminar can be considered as a credit earned towards future psychoanalytic training at CCP.

A final written project, a case report (clinical track students) or a theoretical paper relevant to psychoanalysis (academic track students), will be required for graduation. All students will have the opportunity to discuss individual subject matter with a mentor.
